Thoughts on a Pre-Summer Day

The load stones that overwhelm us at times can also be the featherweights that propel us to the next level in life. Hubby is off of work this week. So they tell us, that doesn't stop him from answering his phone, going into the office to straighten things out or any other number of things. I think that he works just as much on his leave time as he does when he isn't on leave. I need to start planning vacations instead of stay-cations.
The kids are playing loudly in the backyard as the sun shines down on their boisterous bobbing heads and thrilling laughter. Summer is that season that they wish will never end. When the fall comes all three will be packing book bags and bent-o boxes for school. I will be looking for paying work outside of the home and Hubby will continue to do as he has done before. I am so very proud of my man! Anakin our little puppy boy is as crazy as ever. I sometimes think he believes himself a cat.
Since we are in the south the familiar hum of the a/c unit accompanies the summer heat starting at times in the mid spring before school even lets out. There is still so much to do and the older I get the more I think I don't have enough time to do it all. I have said before and I will continue to say that if however you determine to do something you will always find the time for it! I have so many things I want to accomplish.. and I know that I will need surgery sometime in this calendar year on my wrists. I am right handed and my right hand has been acting up again. I plan on making an appointment with the hand doctor for next week, maybe another cortisone injection and then talk about surgery in the fall. I think it would be easier in the fall because my hands can be so full with the children in the summer time. Oh well, six weeks of not using your dominate hand doesn't sound fun anyway you put it.
Miniman has a bit of a speech impediment and started speech therapy during the school year last year. He is able to be a part of a speech program in the summer time as well and will start next week. Goosie is a vicarious reader. I don't seem to have enough books in the house to keep her occupied. Bubbles is still every where, every minute all the time. She is a joy, but always keeps me on my toes. We had started a container garden in the spring, I admit I have had too many up north and forgotten how to grow things in the south. Wow, that sentence makes me miss WA. The green never really goes away in the north west, and the heat never really shows up either.
Everyday I wake up feeling blessed and every night I go to bed feeling even more so. I have no words dear readers for all the wonderful things in my life, even the not so wonderful ones that cause me to appreciate more the ones I have. Until next time dear readers.. Be Blessed!

A Trip, A Birthday and A Chance

This summer marks many mile stones for me. In my personal life, volunteerism and self awareness.
I had the privilege to attend an AFAP conference this past week. The AFAP conference was designed back in the 80's to identify and brainstorm resolutions to issues Army Personnel and their families were having.  I was able to attend and be a small part in this process for families not only in USAREC, but Army wide. It has been a humbling, eye opening experience. I am  honored to have been a part of this conference and further humbled to be given word that I am being looked at as a delegate for the next level. The jury is still out as to when/where that will happen and if I am indeed chosen. Until I receive word I will just pray that if it is for me to be there, then there I will be.
This month marks another birthday for me. I don't remember spending my birthday apart from my family before this year. This birthday will be one I will not soon forget. I was born on the Army's birthday. Years ago when Hubby got ready for work and was in his dress blues I teasingly asked him why he was getting so dressed up for me. He smiled and told me that it wasn't really for me, it was for the Army and every year on the Army's birthday they dress their best. But every year I still look forward to seeing him in his dress uniform on my birthday. That morning I was surprised as the Colonel announced to the entire conference that it was a special day, not just because it was the Army's birthday, but because it was mine. I had the special privilege of assisting another birthday delegate in cutting the Army birthday cake and passing it around. This was a first for me and something I am sure I will never forget. A walk on the beach and a time to rest afterwards were wonderful. Problem solving can be draining and I am looking forward to getting back to my little ones and my wonderful Hubby.
This summer is the 10 year anniversary that Hubby and I met. Not long after we met I had moved down to Florida to help my sister.  After 10 years we are closer to the area Hubby and I met, and now being here brings so much back. The long conversations on the phone that lasted well into the night because of the 3 hour time difference. The letters and pictures we would send each other back and forth that summer. And finally when Hubby asked me to come and be with him. So very much has happend over the last 10 years and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the life we have lived. We have had our ups and downs, but through it all we have stood shoulder to shoulder in full support of each other and weathered each storm. Each year around my birthday I take time to look back, on the previous year and all the things that have happened in it. I ponder the things I could have done differently and try hard to learn from them. I see my experiences not as things that determine who I am, rather what I learn from them does.
I have enjoyed this past week, the time of reflection it has afforded me and the many things I have learned from the process of problem solving on such a large scale. I hope that you all have had a wonderful start to your summer. Until next time dear readers.. Be blessed.
